5 Reasons to Add Street Art into Your Portrait Session
I hope you’re ready for a visual feast - because this blog post is definitely that. Incorporating street art into a portrait session is one of my favorite ways to create visually stunning portraits.
1 They are fun and unpredictable
Street art can be here one day and gone the next, which is exactly what makes it so exciting! You never know what you’ll come across, and that unpredictability gives us the chance to create truly one-of-a-kind images during your session
2 Make a statement - with a statement.
Every now and then, if we’re lucky, we stumble upon a message that just clicks. Here are a few of my favorite finds - words that perfectly matched the vibe of each session.
3 They make for visually interesting backdrops, in whole or in part.
This mural of Mary and her praying hands? It’s one of my absolute favorite mural in the Stuttgart area. I’m drawn to the soft curves and muted tones, which photograph beautifully, every time. I’m so grateful this stunning piece of art has remained untouched.
4 All the colors!
Street art has the power to completely transform your photos. With vivid colors and bold lines, it adds the perfect contrast to make you stand out, no extra props needed
5 Celebrating individuality
We usually incorporate street art into a session when it feels like the right fit for the person being photographed, whether they’re artists themselves, fans of street art, or just love the look it brings to their images. There’s something exciting about discovering the perfect mural or stumbling across something unexpected. It often leads to the most genuine, joyful expressions.
So how do you incorporate murals and graffiti into a portrait session? I recommend either choosing a location that features street art or planning a longer session that includes two or more spots. That way, we can build a well-rounded gallery - blending the bold, creative energy of murals and graffiti with the softer elements of nature, striking architecture, or a mix of both.
Each session featured in this blog was part of a multi-location shoot, designed to create a well-rounded gallery full of variety and personality - something I know my seniors and their families will cherish for years to come.
